DIY Geography Summer Camp

Last week I talked about 5 week At home DIY Summer Camp Plan for busy parents . Today I will be talking about Week 1 Geography Camp. As mentioned in my previous post, this camp is based on book series Horrible Geography (Set of 12 books). This is a fun book series that makes learning about geography fun and is very informative. Both my kids found this book funny and are enjoying the reading. Along with these books you can do fun projects to expand and internalize the learning. Below is the table of how each book can be tied to one project per day: At the bottom of the post you can download Geography Camp Plan PDF and access the projects for each of the book. Additional Activities: Explore point of interests from the books on Google Earth Explore point of interests with live webcam. At Home Summer Camp

It is time of the year where kids are home and especially this year with quarantine situation, there are not many options available for on-site camps. I see many virtual camps being offered, but I was looking camp that does not require screen time. Given the circumstances I decided to create my own schedule of at home summer camps. I used 5 criteria for these camps: Should not require screen time Kids should get camp like experience – with new topic every week There should be minimum prep for parents and yet each activity should be hands on and inspire kids to explore further Activities should be cost effective Every camp should involve some reading activity Also Read: 5 Steps to prevent technology addiction This week was last week of virtual school and kids did not have much homework.
